I have written us down, typed us up, and sent us out.
they will edit us, and say some parts are no good.
but I want your run-ons, your lack of punctuation; and you are so easy

I hope this is more than inebriated romance.
I watch you in the diner.
I'm always watching, through mirrors, through doorways, seeing you and seeing me and knowing we're reflections of the same hypocrisy; I'm outside the television, this tellingvision, I'm disconnected, broken, the nerve between me and the rest of existence is strained and I see beyond your charades. I'm on the outside of the window, our interactions are equivocal, ambiguous, filtered and muted. My reality is a drunk prism, and your reality is an insane labyrinth of pattern, schedule, and bullshit.

Do you remember the days when you scooped me up and I thrived in your sand-grain pores? It was autumn then, the leaves were too crisp and red back then, and you know how terrified of fire I was. In the summers I turned into burning coal and cracking volcano shells, and in the winter I would be blown away in the wind, acrobatic summersaults until I became another piece of hail in an ice storm.
But the hail is beginning to thaw and soak sweetly in the swelling ground. The mud will spring grass and flowers and forests will grow before my eyes. Im still a naive fledgling but you have your own freedom to chase after. Im the flower und

EDIT (10/26/2008): I just want to thank everyone who's fav'd or commented on this thing. It blows my mind that people are still reading this and fav'ing it; I never imagined that I'd still be relevant four months after my DD, which was unexpected in and of itself. So thank you for all the love and support; as a young writer who's never quite been sure of herself, you guys really make me feel loved.
This came out much longer and much more different than I had been expecting -- but the story ran away with me, and here we are!
I actually really like this one. I've no idea why, but I do. Probably because I love the story that it's based on. And I do all my best writing in the dead of the night.
Inspired by Robert Coover's novella, Briar Rose (which can be read in its entirety here), and *simplyprose's April word association prompt, here. Also entered in ~ElectroBaby's yearlong contest, here, as a March entry.
Don't let the mature content filter deter you too much, there's not much mention of what happened; it was a precautionary measure.

I missed reading this story and congratulating you on the DD by several years.
But it still held my attention throughout and has a terrific, realistic end. Thank you.
